Reasons

As I said previously, it took me two years to decide to have this surgery. I really thought a lot about which treatment plan would be the best option for me and I decided to go for the surgery for the following reasons:

  1. I want to be able to close my mouth without feeling pressure or pain in my Temporomandibular  joints;
  2. I want to be able to talk and eat properly without having to constantly slide my lower jaw forward;
  3. I want to be able to pronounce words properly (it is sometimes difficult for me to pronounce some words because my tongue doesn't reach my front teeth);
  4. I want to be pain free (hopefully migraine free too);
  5. I want to keep my teeth in my mouth (my lower teeth were pushing my upper teeth forward and it could lead to shortage of my upper front teeth roots, which could eventually end up getting wobbly and falling).
Also, the other treatment plan offered would involve teeth extraction, the use of pins (that would be screwed next to my last molar teeth) and elastic bands. The final result would not be the same or as good as if I had the surgery, the treatment would last longer (between 4 to 5 years), I would feel pain for a longer period of time (think of how many times I would have to go for adjustments!!), the treatment would end up being more expensive and I would be for a longer period of time freaking out about weight loss (I am the opposite of everybody else - I am naturally very skinny and I have extreme difficulty to put on weight).

Bearing in mind that all treatment plans have a down side and risks to it, I think I will benefit more if I have the surgery done.
